Timber Timbre

Timber Timbre is The Whistlebinkies second album for Greentrax Recordings and was produced by engineer Cy Jack and The Whistlebinkies at Waterfront Studios in Glasgow, Scotland, in 1998. It features as guest the renowned composer James MacMillan who sings his own song The Tryst with the group, playing whistle at the end of the track. Another special feature is the inclusion of a track of music from China - A China Set. The group were the first Scottish folk ensemble to do a concert tour of China. In exchange with a Chinese ensemble they travelled there in November, 1991. The slow opening of the track is an ancient bamboo flute tune followed by Purple Bamboo Melody - which the group learned for their tour. The group members are Peter Anderson (Scottish side-drum, bodhran, percussion); Annaliese Dagg (fiddle, viola); Stuart Eydmann (concertina, fiddle); Mark Hayward (fiddle); Eddie McGuire (flute, piccolo, clarsach); Judith Peacock (clarsach, voice); Rab Wallace (Lowland pipes, Scottish smallpipes) with guest James MacMillan (voice, whistle).
