Annotation
Floating electronic space and floating classical adagios
"Spacemusic" sounds new, but in fact it's always been with us. It's any music with a spacious quality in the sound. The space can come from the physical environment in which the music exists — like a cathedral — or it may be some kind of psychological or emotional space.
On this program we'll explore contemporary spacemusic from Europe, mostly from France, with a look back to some 18th century 'spacemusic' by JOHANN SEBASTIAN BACH and TOMASO ALBINONI. We'll hear selections from two early film scores by VANGELIS, the roots of his work which led to an Academy Award in 1982 for the music for CHARIOTS of FIRE.
