“BONNIE’S LULLABY” is a deathstep track by Eric Mattavian Jones, AKA Diamondstep L. Duchrodes, or simply Diamondstep. featuring vocals from Marie Ork, released on August 8, 2024, under Mynshaft Records. The song commemorates the 10th anniversary of Scott Cawthon’s “Five Nights at Freddy’s” (FNAF) series. Inspired by the “Bonnie’s Lullaby” music box from “Five Nights at Freddy’s 3,” Diamondstep aimed to capture the emotions of the game’s missing children’s anger, restlessness, and vengeance, drawing creative influence from Borgore’s “Eulogies.” The Song/Single features vocals from Marie Ork, a Vocaloid-Esque voicebank from the Vocaloid inspired VST “Alter/Ego”, developed by Plogue. Diamondstep had this to say to further explain the process: "This year, Scott Cawthon's Five Nights At Freddy's (FNAF) turns 10 years old. While I didn't have much planned, I did came across the 'Bonnie's Lullaby' music box, which is used in the glitch minigame in Five Nights At Freddy's 3. when I listened to it (on youtube, because I wanted to not play the game just to find the song), I instantly got hooked to the song and then made something in a couple days, and this was the result. In this track, I tried my best to describe how the missing children in the game were feeling (angry, upset, restless, tired, pissed off, vengeful and forgotten. Basically how someone would feel if their life was taken away and were never found), while also using the inspiration from Borgore's song "EULOGIES" (from his album CHIAROSCURO) to describe and recreate these emotions in a form of tearout and deathstep. I originally wanted to call it SHADOW BONNIE'S LULLABY, but I chose BONNIE'S LULLABY instead because I felt the name was perfect and short. Marie Ork was the perfect singer for this song because she's has a powerful tone compared to other singers Plogue made for Alter/Ego. Happy 10 year anniversary to Five Night's At Freddy's, and thank you Scott Cawthon for making such an amazing game!"

Lyrics explained:

“I can’t breathe”: This could symbolize the suffocating feeling of being trapped within the animatronic shell, unable to escape or find peace. It could also reflect the literal suffocation the children might have experienced during their demise.

“I can’t sleep”: The spirits of the children are in a state of unrest, unable to find eternal rest or relief. Instead, they are forced to relive their trauma within the haunted animatronics.

“I’m so numb to this pain You Have given me”
This line could symbolize the children’s desensitization to the suffering inflicted by William Afton. Over time, their pain has become a constant, dull ache, contributing to their transformation from innocent souls into vengeful spirits. The reference to “You” directly points to Afton as their tormentor, holding him responsible for their suffering.

(Side Note: The repeated line “I cannot escape” could definitely be a subtle nod to the early Five Nights at Freddy’s fan theories and depictions from 2014-2015, where animatronics were often imagined to malfunction or glitch as they struggled to speak, reflecting their digital or mechanical nature).

The switch to “sick and tired of this pain You Have given me” indicates a shift from numbness to anger. The progression from being numb to being fed up with the pain illustrates the children’s growing wrath and their readiness to take action against their captor. The heavier metal sound amplifies this aggression, matching the tone of animatronics like Bonnie becoming more hostile as the nights progress in the games.

This could be the spirits’ desperate attempt to reach out or find solace, but they have already lost their humanity. They are “dead inside,” emotionally and physically disconnected from the world they once knew.
