Annotation
This is the first of two versions Van Eyck composed, based on the well known composition "Amarilli mia bella", which is commonly attributed to Giulio Caccini, though there are some doubts about Caccinis originality (see here, subscription required). Van Eyck seems to have based his version on a six voiced vocal version that appeared in the compilation "Ghirlanda di madrigali" published by Phalèse in 1601, a year before Caccinis "Le nuove musiche".
